Our first full day at sea!!! And since we don’t really have anything to do today, I kept checking on the sun- this is 130am:

As we sail south, sunsets will become more “normal” and night will actually happen, but until then, it’s fun to see how not dark it gets here!
The sun actually wakes up around 430am:

We’re heading toward Hubbard Glacier, which is that 2nd inlet just past the arrow of where we currently are:

So until we get there, let’s go exploring!

There’s a pool on the level above us (which is also where the cafeteria is):

Pool from above and a small walking area:

Top level:

Under that is the “Crow’s Nest”, which is home to games and puzzles and art classes:

Why didn’t I center this better!?

And, down on deck 3 is a walking path that wraps all the way around the ship!

Three laps = 1 mile.
Every day they change the mat in the elevator so you know what day it is!

(I had every intention of taking a picture of the mat each day, but as it turned out, we usually just took the stairs)
Quick lunch break before we get to our glacier:

There were 5-6 stations set up for each meal and at least a couple stations set up in between for anytime snacks. This will probably be our go-to meal location; the fact that it’s only one level above us and the stairs are just around the corner from our room certainly helps 🙂 plus, Matt informed me that it’s basically open eating- unlike the dining room where they scanned our ship cards, you can just swing through and eat whenever you want! …this might be dangerous…

Hubbard Glacier

Into the bay we go!

It’s absolutely gorgeous here!

Approaching the glacier:

And a little boat approached us…

It pulled up along side us and several passengers from our ship boarded it:

…but how? I checked if there were any excursions available today and came up empty. How did they arrange this!? I wanna get up close to the glacier!
But we do get to enjoy the sights from the comfort of our balcony:

All those floating ice bits came off the glacier:

I love the blue ice!

I got excited thinking that dark blob on the left was a seal’s head:

but nope! just a rock!

Getting closer:

This is Hubbard Glacier:

It’s one of the few glaciers that’s actively growing. Sure it calves frequently, but it’s also adding mass and advancing, which is a welcome change as most glaciers are shrinking and receding. It’s about 6 miles wide at its …foot? snout? I don’t actually know the proper name for the part that touches the ocean.
As the glacier scrapes along the rocks, it picks up debris, hence the dark line:

We ventured closer to the ice field than I expected:

Then turned around, heading back toward open ocean:

And this is the last picture I took today. The lack of sleep is finally catching up to me. See you in the morning!
