The sun rises over Hualālai:
Today, we drove to the Southernmost Point (of both Hawaii and the US!) and hiked to Papakōlea, the green sand beach.
There are locals giving rides, but technically, it’s illegal.
We hiked through mini-canyons…
…and took shelter under this wind-swept tree for its shade.
Found a cool flower!
And another!
Hey look! We found the beach!
Isn’t it pretty!?
There were people on the beach! I decided we should join them…
…down a sketchy staircase…
and we’re down at water-level.
Green sand!
(I obeyed this sign and put my sand back)
Matt, on Green Sand Beach.
Look at all those illegal rides…
But the hike is so pretty!
Another fun plant
Quick stop at the Southernmost Point!
Yup, another view that’ll never get old for me
…the hike may have been a bit dusty...
Matt was all hiked out, so we went back to Kona, enjoyed some Shave Ices, and called it a day!
