So I know we just got back from a trip, but while we were on said trip, Matt set up a business trip to Texas, leaving just a few days after we got back home. Initially, I thought about flying down to join him, but his itinerary didn’t leave much time for sight-seeing and I didn’t really wanna just sit in a car and drive around. However, it’s been a while since I last went diving so…
Late last week, I booked a flight, hotel and car, and called up my dive shop in the Keys to set up some dives!
This flight out wasn’t quite as early as last month’s, and the sun was actually awake by the time I got to the airport. As an added bonus, we somehow got into Miami 30 minutes ahead of schedule.
Last time we picked up our rental car, we waited in the line with everyone else, but when we got up to the counter the agent told me I had preferred status and didn’t actually have to wait- they have a special counter I can check in at! Today when I got to the rental car center, the line was several dozen people deep, so I figured I’d test out the special line and I’m so glad I did! They were running super low on cars, and even though I had a reservation, my car class wasn’t available, so they upgraded me and gave me the option between a Dodge Charger and a Toyota Camry. While the Charger sounded fun, I figured the Camry would get better milage (though that remains to be seen- didn’t get the best mileage on the drive down, but I did hit a lot of traffic). This is the newest rental car I’ve ever had! It’s a 2024 model with only 107 miles on it!
First order of business once I got checked into my hotel- eat some delicious fishes from Skipper’s Dockside, my go-to restaurant when I’m down here, and watch my dive boats come back from afternoon dives:
I like staying right on the marina so I can just walk over to my dives in the morning (my shop has boats on both sides and is right next to where I’m staying), but I forgot that the bar just across the way has live music at night, which I would normally enjoy, but I do have to be up early tomorrow for my first dive.
Good luck, me!
