As much as I hate to see a trip end, I think I’m ready to leave here.
I had been doing so good about not getting bitten (so many people were covered in bug bites, but my DEET spray + picaridin lotion combo seemed to work), until I saw a couple little birds outside my window and wanted a picture:
so I ran out in my flip flops without bug spray and got bit in the foot by an ant. Lame. Fortunately, I also packed several anti-itch lotions, so hopefully one of those works!
One last delicious roll with breakfast:
I wish I remembered what this was called because it was so perfectly warm and fluffy- I had one every morning!
From what I’ve heard, security at the Roatan airport is kind of a disaster to get through when flying out on the weekends, but leaving midweek? no lines, no wait and, unfortunately, not much to do once at the gate. There was, however, a chocolate stand where I sampled some of their flavors before picking up some to bring home to my parents. Fortunately, the fun group of guys from my first boat was also leaving today, so we all hung out and chatted the time away until it was time to board our flight:
Farewell, Roatan!
Hello, Miami!
I forgot to ask if they minded having their picture on my site, so I won’t post it here, but I had a great dinner with the group before it was time for us to catch our respective flights and we went our separate ways. Hanging out with them was definitely one of the highlights of this trip!
I thought I picked not a bulkhead seat, but apparently mistakes were made- my seat for this flight includes non-movable armrests and this seriously chunky seatbelt (which sat awkwardly on my hip and was very uncomfortable):
Fortunately, there was an empty row across the aisle and back one row, so I was able to switch seats! Look at all this space I have!
My flight gets in around midnight and I’ve got a 1.5 hour drive home, so I’m hoping to catch a nap on this leg of the trip.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot came on the intercom saying, “for those of you seated on the right side of the plane, take a look out your window- there’s a great light show going on!”
I’m on the right side of the plane now! and he was right- look at that lightning!
Pictures don’t quite capture just how flashy it was, so I shot this short video:
Then I tipped over and took a nap, waking up just in time for snacks (I got a whole can of Coke! which will come in handy on my drive home).
Getting out of the airport was kind of a disaster- there’s a lot of construction going on and while most parts of the detour are well marked, there were definitely a few questionable spots. Not really what I wanted to deal with after a long travel day, but I’m thankful there weren’t many cars on the road so I could make quick lane changes and slow down when needed to confirm with GPS (which I am also thankful for!)
That truck on the left though:
He definitely made a wrong turn somewhere…
but finally, a little after 2am, around the same time I was leaving a week ago, I arrived home!
Another successful trip!
