We woke up in Lafayette to find this vehicle outside our hotel room:
Not sure if we should feel safer for having it guarding our hotel, or nervous that it needed guarding. Regardless, we hit the road and kept on exploring.

We stopped at for an early lunch at The Chimes, which turned out to be a pretty cool pub.
We continued our Foods of the South tour with these blackened alligator bites (a bit chewy but delicious):
and this crawfish étouffée (spicy, but really good- turns out I rather like crawfish!):
Neither of us had been to New Orleans, so we made that our next stop.
The sidewalks all have street names inlayed in tile!
1) I don’t think that big boat is going to fit under the bridge
2) Those stairs go right into the water

Jambalaya (spicy, but once my mouth went numb, it was pretty good):
Bonus Gumbo (we got the order of the people next to us, so I got to check off another dish from my to-try list. Again, spicy, but tasty! and full of new things: okra- not bad, shrimp- ok, oyster- nope, nope, NOPE!, crab- yes!)
Sazerac for me (mostly all booze- it burned; totally not my thing) and a mystery beer for Matt (I don’t remember what he ordered):
