Today, we drove across the island to hunt waterfalls! (that’s Kohala on the left and Mauna Kea on the right)

Mauna Kea- we couldn’t visit it because the road is blocked by protestors, who don’t want a new giant telescope built atop it. Unfortunate for Matt because the view from up there is spectacular!

First waterfall!

Hey look! Rainbow Falls!

Can you see the rainbow?

Falls from the top

Treacherous path at the top of the falls…

…but it leads to a pretty cool banyan tree!

Us and the banyan tree!

Look at the cool foliage!

Waterfall #2

A beautiful hike

Lots of fun plants!

TINY LIZARD!!! (they were everywhere!)

After our hike, we went in search of food.  These are malasadas! Basically, fried dough squares. The first one is plain, then Bavarian cream, Mango and Strawberry.

They were DELICIOUS!!

Waipi’o Lookout, along the northern coast.

View of the valley + coastline

Off in the distance there, pretty sure that’s Haleakalā (on Maui)

Finally, our last stop of the day, the view from Pololū Lookout. Since it was getting late we didn’t hike down to the beach.

Still made for some beautiful pictures 🙂

Kona in the evening.

The sun sets on a great day of exploring!
