Almost every time I’m down in the Keys to dive, I hear people talking about the Blue Heron Bridge, a shore dive in Palm Beach, and I recently learned that they also do Blackwater dives there as well, so I decided to check it out.
I rented this house, which ended up being just off the bridge, so I had a super short drive to my shore dives!
The main living area, with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom down the hall:
Kitchen + one of the bedrooms:
The covered deck was great for hanging gear out to dry, but one of the boards was broken (they did warn me about that), and the whole thing felt… spongy? definitely not the most sound deck- walking on it made me a bit nervous.
There was also a super-sketchy shed just around the corner that housed the washer/dryer. I know a lot of places in the south keep them outside, and they did work well (I hate having to pack wet gear), but it wasn’t the most convenient set up.
The house itself looked updated, but most of it was superficial- the majority of the outlets were still 2-prong, so I’m glad I packed a surge protector/power strip- between dive lights and batteries, plus my phone and computer, I end up charging quite a few electronics on dive trips.
There was a Publix one block over, so I had easy access to groceries (I like having a kitchen for longer trips). Getting in and out from the house was a bit tricky as the main road out was divided and I could only turn right, but I quickly learned the back roads so getting to and from my dive boats was no problem.
